Back in June, engineers from all our Tradeshift offices took part in the Global Hackathon. There were teams from San-Francisco, Copenhagen, Novosibirsk, Bucharest, Suzhou, Sydney and Louvain-la-Neuve.

The event welcomed all tradeshifters to partake. Engineers joined forces with colleagues from HR, Programme, Product and other departments.

The Hackathon started Thursday morning, and ended the next day afternoon.

Participants were free to come up with their own ideas. They only had 2 criteria to keep in mind: technical readiness and awesomeness :)
They pitched their ideas and recruited team members.

As we kicked-of, teams got together and the ideas began to take shape. A nice, vibrant vibe started to fill up the air.

In the evening, we took a break to recharge our batteries. We had a pizza feast!

The first day ended with wrapping up and preparing the activities for the next day. Each team had to prepare to demo the project in the office, at the end of the hackathon.

After enjoying a yummy breakfast, the teams kicked-off the second day of the hackathon. You could feel the enthusiasm, energy and desire to win!

It’s demo time!

The end of the Hackathon approached rapidly. Colleagues from each of the offices gathered to watch the teams present how their ideas came to life.

There were lots of amazing projects: A pirate game, organization chart browser, product configurator, machine learning data prediction, data migration, fun invoicing, speech recognition, app light toggle, QR code login and many, many others.

The jury chose the local winners that would take part in the final global presentations.

The global finale presentations arrived. The winning local teams had to convince the global jury on the awesomeness of their projects.

It was a tough choice, but after much deliberation, the jury decided on the winning idea — a Cross-platform Debugging Tool for Frontend. The prize went to the Tradeshift Middleman Team, from Suzhou, China!
