The tech ladies of the Bucharest office

Tradeshift is a very diverse company and we span a wide range of cultures. We have more than 30 different nationalities and locations all over the world. We are also very proud to have many female engineers and engineering managers.

A good gender balance is key to a unique working environment. It adds more creativity and enables a more open-minded approach to the work culture.

Tradeshift celebrated our “Ladies in tech” on the International Women’s Day on March 8th. In our Bucharest office, the female members of our staff took on the hard task of eliminating this huge cake.

“Girls shouldn’t work in tech — it’s an ugly profession”

Many tech companies struggle with attracting female employees. And many women face cultural obstacles when considering a career in tech.
Statements like this make it hard to choose the path towards tech if it’s coming from your parents.

Software engineer Elena Andriescu came to Tradeshift engineering from the legal industry:

“I am still learning, still failing and making mistakes…still loving it”

On the limitations of being one of the few female engineers, she is very clear:

“we need not dwell on concepts of femininity, or patterns or roles or any other shallow limits. WE are the only limits.”

Senior Software Engineer Marina Lecu highlights the values of Tradeshift

Tradeshift promotes good ideas, supporting diversity and standing against discrimination…

And her personal path in navigating as a woman in a male-dominated business

my advice to everyone is to be patient, kind and stay curious!
