3 things you must have to succeed with a cold email campaign

Cold email is still an amazing lead generation tool

It doesn’t cost very much and it can generate a lot of meetings for your business

Some of my clients are getting 5–10 sales meetings a week from cold email alone

It’s possible, but setting up a cold email campaign is a lot more work than you realise

The returns are well worth the effort

You need 3 things to succeed with cold email:

Copy, data and technology

1. Let’s start with copy

Your copy needs to make you stand out and draw attention

Like a granny at a rave

Be light hearted and don’t take yourself too seriously

Even though it’s business, you’re not the only professional that likes to laugh every once in a while

Stop being so selfish and share your humour with your clients

You’d be surprised at how much they appreciate this approach

I learned from Jon Buchan, a brilliant copywriter

His techniques are absolute gold

You should join his FB group Charm Offensive for all things humorous

Next, we have data

People try to get cheap or free data

This is possible, but the problem is that it’s much harder to get leads

Data quality is lower when you aren’t paying much money

Frankly, it takes a lot of time to succeed with bad data

But if you have time you can try out these free data sources:

Another option is to get data from LinkedIn (or similar sources)

You can do this yourself or plug a list of Linkedin URLs into Find That Lead

Find That Lead also has a database you can tap into directly

See https://findthatlead.com/

You can tell when data is from LinkedIn because when you download it they usually give you the LinkedIn URL of the profile

LinkedIn data is usable, but it’s not the best quality

The best option is to have a VA or team scraping for you

This is the method my clients use to get 5–10 sales meetings a week from cold email

There are 2 ways:

1. Either you can hire a freelancer online

2. Or send me a personal message and I will introduce you to people I know… ;)

The reason this works so well is they take every prospect you want to contact,

Find their website, LinkedIn account, look for their email and also verify it before sending it to you

So much work goes into finding this data and because it has been scraped specifically for you, the prospects are less likely to have received a cold email in the past

Which explains why the response rate is so high even though it may be a bit more expensive

It’s well worth it

…Lastly you can buy data from databases, the two databases I recommend are

- Zoominfo — https://www.zoominfo.com/

- Electric marketing (UK data only) — https://www.electricmarketing.co.uk/

3. Lastly, Technology

If you want to be safe, the best thing to do would be to set up a separate domain from your main domain when you’re sending cold email

This way you won’t get into trouble if you get blacklisted by Google

If this all sounds like gibberish

That’s okay, I’ll do more posts on this in the future because it’s quite technical…

In the meantime, I recommend that you go to the Quickmail checklist

See https://quickmail.io/checklist/

It has the most thorough checklist for setting up your technology

So that your emails get seen and get responded to

Which is exactly what you want

-

These techniques will enable you to generate a lot of meetings for your business

Without spending a fortune

Cold email campaigns do take a lot of work, but I know plenty of software companies and marketing agencies that create 80%+ of their revenue from cold outreach alone
