HOW TO MAKE MONEY LITERALLY THIS MONTH (FULL METHOD, MAKE HUNDREDS THIS WEEK)
One of my friends texted me that she was freezing fucking cold last night. The heating was on a timer as they couldn’t afford to keep it on past 10.30pm. It was now midnight…
When she wrote that to me I was laid out on a leather sofa reading, in no need of centralheating. It’s easy to forget the price we pay (in my case paid) to live in L.A.
In that lonely studio flat I used to live in in Shoreditch (London), the heating broke after one week and as the building was getting demolished, the landlord saw no point in fixing it, so I had to buy electric plug-in heaters. As anyone who’s ever had one will know, these things EAT electricity. Bonus: We had the ultimate welfare energy system: Electricity on a plastic key you had to top up at a corner shop and then put back in your meter as you couldn’t be trusted to pay bills. So…that died an awful lot, at key times like halfway through cooking or when you had friends over.
Anyway, y’all know what happened to me next. Planet Ivy, Investment money, building an agency, public speaking, touring the world, Harambe. This post isn’t about me.
Some of you reading this are about to have a cold fucking winter. It’s just a fact. You’re going to be getting up before the sun rises, working somewhere you don’t like, and coming home after the sun has set, perhaps to a house which is cold as fuck. (You may also have a room mate you hate, which is surprisingly common). You’ve got to be telling yourself “this is the last winter I’ll do this to myself.”
A year is a long enough time to get your money right. Anyone can do it: Every day we talk about the tools in this group. They are nothing without innovation or a great product: You have to bring that. HOWEVER I’m well aware those “hustle harder” posts can leave you feel a bit bewildered when you’re broke af and so stressed out about money you can’t think straight, so here’s an evergreen method to make ca$h literally a child could do.
N.b. I haven’t done the below in a while but every time I have it worked, and the method is evergreen:
- Find all the rock bands who are touring in the next 3–12 months
- Join their FAN CLUBS. Most are free, just an email subscription, worth paying money for the paid ones as there’ll be even less competition
- You want rock bands who play stadiums (Wembley Arena, 02, extrapolate this across all of UK venues) and have STANDING TICKETS. You ONLY EVER want to buy Standing tickets- seats are too risky, but everyone will want to stand at rock gigs. For huge artists, if you KNOW the seating plans and prices by searching, try seats. As ever, the more research you put in, the better you’ll get at this. Stubhub and the secondary ticketing sites are a good outline to what you may be able to make, but shouldn’t be taken as gospel
- You should have a feel for which ones will sell out- some sniffing around in Facebook groups and forums will help you find this out if you’re not familiar with the space
- Find out when the FAN CLUB PRE-SALE IS — normally 2 days before general release. This will ensure you’re not competing with bots when the tickets get released
- Once you’re CERTAIN tickets will sell out, buy as many as you can afford (start with 4–10 until you have a buffer to lose money). Having 2 or 3 cards to buy more tickets will eventually be needed
- Buy tickets during the pre-sale. This will mean you have yours before the traditional “9am Friday rush” and will leave all the idiots tweeting “CAN’T BELIEVE IT SOLD OUT IN 2 MINUTES HOW IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE” — Well, it’s because the fan clubs slurped up all the tickets. Then the bots slurped up the best seats on general release.
- List them on eBay, StubHub, GetMein, etc IMMEDIATELY as they go on that 9am sale. Name your price (lol!) as people now need them. Send them out the tickets when you get them. Some are e-tickets so an email is all you need :-)
- Think about other industries this model can be applied for is where even more money is, this one is somewhat obvious
Disclaimers: Occasionally a band will come along and fuck this up by not selling enough tickets so you’ll have to sell them nearer face value near the date of the event (Hello, R.E.M.!) so never spend more than you can afford, and make sure you do your research. If the band has had a chart hit it’s a good sign. Obvious disclaimer: No method of making money is risk-free. Plenty of people have tried this and fucked it up.
P.s. Do I really need to spoon feed you this method even more? Fine.
Go on gigantic. Com and you can see what’s coming out soon. I just saw Coldplay coming out this Friday. I then googled “Coldplay fan club presale” and found this link in literally 3 seconds: https:// zumic. com/2016/10/03/coldplay-add-2017-tour-dates-head-full-dreams-ticket-presale-codes-info/
- You need an Amex card to complete, but you can easily, easily, sell some of these tickets for 1.5x — 2x their value. Literally on Friday.
For every 100 people who say “That method doesn’t work anymore” there’s one other person who hustles harder and makes it work. Like everyone who says black hat SEO or building massive Facebook pages for free can’t happen anymore. I know people doing both. With gig tickets for big bands, demand is always higher than supply, like drugs, or getting an Uber in Austin, Texas. We can get back to talking about Startups with no business model next time
