2020 isn’t just the start of a new decade (or a news show), it’s also a major milestone marking the demand for new skills. According to the World Economic Forum, by the year 2020 (that’s now), more than a third of in-demand skills will be new, ensuring the workforce can keep pace with technology advances like artificial intelligence and machine learning.

What’s more, the Salesforce economy is booming! According to a recent IDC study, a whopping 4.2 million new jobs will be created in the Salesforce economy by 2024.

Not only has the demand for skills changed but also learner’s expectations and the way we learn. Today, learners want learning that is fun, engaging, and personalized to their needs. They want to learn skills that are resume-worthy. And they want a way to share their knowledge with their community.

That’s where Trailhead Academy comes in. Trailhead Academy offers expert-led classes globally in more than 13 different languages for every Salesforce cloud, role, and level — so there are plenty of learning options to choose from.

And if you’ve ever experienced one of our classes, you know it’s not just your run-of-the-mill ‘sit in a class and learn’ type of environment. We have instructors who rap about security.

And instructors who sing songs to help you remember the order of execution when it comes to rules and triggers.

And other instructors who do 50+ person games of Bear-Ninja-Cowboy (see the awesomeness below) and volunteer their skills and time to help nonprofits.

In addition to these fun and quirky things our instructors do to keep you engaged throughout your learning experience with us, we’re excited to introduce five new experiences that take your skills to the next level.

#1: Astro’s Magic Show

Everyone loves a good card game, especially when it helps you prepare for your Salesforce certification exam. Here’s the gist: Astro’s planning a magic show, and they need your help.

In this game, students take turns playing the role of Astro as they configure Salesforce to plan, manage, and track a magic show. The perfect game for new Administrators, it’s a fun twist on flashcards, making learning fun and competitive as each player competes against each other.

And don’t just take our word for it. In a recent classroom survey, students raved about this new experience:

#2: Digital Escape Room

Escape rooms, or escape games, are all the rage right now. If you’re not familiar with them, essentially, it’s a game in which a team of players cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to progress and accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time.

The goal is often to escape from the site of the game. Introduced at Dreamforce ’18, our version of the digital escape room puts students in a race against the clock to configure Salesforce and answer questions in order to break out of the room. This is the perfect brain teaser for Advanced Admins.

Bonus: Complete the challenge and escape the room and you’ll earn the Build an Event Registration App badge on Trailhead.

#3: Poll Everywhere

The secret sauce to any successful classroom experience is knowing your audience. That’s where Poll Everywhere comes in.

We’ve introduced this interactive tool into our classrooms so we can get real-time feedback and engagement from our students. Throughout the class, we ask questions and hold Poll Everywhere competitions to gamify learning and keep our students thinking and acting quickly on knowledge gained during class.

#4: Build-A-Thon

You’ve heard of a Hack-A-Thon, but what about a Build-A-Thon? At Dreamforce ’19, we launched our first ever Build-A-Thon, where we invited Dreamforce attendees to work together to build a solution that best met the requirements of a specific use case we provided.

Attendees collaborated to design, build, and present their solution to the larger group of participants and judges, our very own Trailhead Academy instructors, who rated the solutions and chose a winning team.

#5: Salesforce Superpowers for Nonprofits

In partnership with Salesforce.org, at Dreamforce ’19, we led a session where attendees learned about being a Pro Bono Volunteer in the Salesforce ecosystem and how to use their Salesforce skills for the good of others.

They identified their Salesforce superpowers and how to use them for causes they care about, learned how nonprofits and educational institutions use Salesforce to drive their missions, and discovered the solutions and resources available to nonprofit and education organizations — all while earning the Pro Bono Basics for Salesforce Professionals badge.

New Skills for a New Year

We’re excited to bring you these new experiences so you can learn in-demand skills in a way that’s engaging and personalized to your learning needs.

Whether it’s card games, digital escape rooms, interactive and real-time collaboration, Build-A-Thons, or Pro Bono sessions, these new experiences are a sure-fire way to get you thinking and learning, all while having fun.

And you can get these experiences in our expert-led classes delivered all over the world, at Trailhead Bootcamps (check out the Save the Date for Washington, D.C. below), TrailheaDX, and at Dreamforce.

We look forward to seeing you in one of our classes, Trailhead Bootcamps, TrailheaDX or Dreamforce.
