But the real secret sauce of Trailhead is the Trailhead Playground. It provides anyone access to a Salesforce Developer Environment for FREE so they can get hands-on with Salesforce.
For new learners, the Trailhead Playground is a game-changer, letting them put their skills to the test by learning and then doing. And for seasoned Trailblazers, it provides a way to test out new customizations and features — without any risk of changing the production environment.
Introducing the Trailhead Playground Starter
And now, the Trailhead Playground has gotten even better with the addition of the Trailhead Playground Starter. This new app makes getting started with Salesforce and building out your dev environment easier than ever.
With one tool, you get tips and an overview of getting started, a seamless way to install new packages into your Playground, and even the ability to quickly find your username and reset your password.
When you create a new Trailhead Playground, it will now automatically open in the new Playground Starter app. Plus, you can navigate back to it anytime by selecting Playground Starter in the App Launcher.
Let’s dive into the three ways the Trailhead Playground has improved with the introduction of the Playground Starter.
1. Get helpful tips
New to Trailhead or been off the trail for a while? Now, when you launch a newly created Trailhead Playground, you’ll be taken to a ‘Welcome’ tab in the Playground Starter app.
Here, you can watch a quick overview video that highlights best practices on how to successfully navigate and build in your Playground.
Plus, there are even helpful tips and walk-throughs showing you how to solve the common issues that can get Trailblazers stuck on the trail.
2. Install a new package
As you blaze your trail through Trailhead projects, challenges, and superbadges, you’ll need to install AppExchange apps and packages into your Playground.
We’ve heard your feedback and know this process could be clumsy, difficult, and frustrating. The new and improved Trailhead Playground makes installing an app or package simple and seamless.
All Trailhead challenges requiring an installation have now been updated to include an app or package ID number. Simply:
- Copy the ID provided in the Trailhead module.
- Navigate to the ‘Install a Package’ tab in the Playground Starter.
- Paste the ID number.
- Click Install.
And voila! You have a brand new app or package installed in your Trailhead Playground. How easy is that? Heads up: This new feature is only available for newly created Trailhead Playgrounds — create one and test it out today.
3. Find your playground username and password
We also heard that finding your Trailhead Playground username could be tricky, so we made it easier. In the ‘Get Your Login Credentials’ tab, we’ve provided it right on the page for you.
Plus, if you need to reset your password, just click Reset My Password from this tab. You’ll automatically be sent an email with instructions.
So no more hassle of searching through your users to find the right “You.”
