Whether it’s orchestral melodies nurturing your baby genius or a pop princess cheering you on at the gym, we all know tunes have the potency to push us past our limits.

So we began to wonder, what kind of music could both help people get more out of Salesforce and amp up their learning goals? After months of gnarly research we had our answer — HEAVY METAL.

Shred your learning goals

What’s the link between heavy metal and learning? “It’s all about the shred,” claims Dr. Lars Halford, a leading researcher in the field of audio-cerebral optimization.

“The virtuoso lead guitar solo and furious rhythm favored by heavy metal bands leads to an increase of our brain’s ‘learning tempo.’ The result, simply put, is we learn faster.”

Legendary!

But do galloping guitar solos really translate into galloping faster toward our goals? Many Trailblazers who participated in our study gave a hair-raising, YAS!

“I used to listen to opera while blazing my trail,” said Dana “Wild Stallion” Hall. “But since I swapped soprano for shredding, my learning has gone off the charts. I’ve been averaging a superbadge a day.”

For those about the rock, we compute you

We realized heavy metal could tip the arpeggiated scales for many would-be Trailhead-bangers. So we quickly began working on an updated Trailhead experience to make metal the headliner. The result is #Trailshred.

You can still earn badges and forge a path to the careers of the future. But unlike Trailhead, where you complete a challenge by tapping on a boring keyboard, Trailshred conforms to the natural gestures used by metalheads.

For instance, answering a multiple choice question is as easy as strumming the correct note on your air guitar.

“Our riff recognition interface does the rest,” explains Chris “Diamond” Duarte, Trailshred’s Innovation Lead. “Using your computer’s camera, you can rock out while you skill up. The system instantly translates your movements into code. It’s righteous, dude.”

Here are just a few examples of how the new interface will rock your world.

Banging out features with Apex code.
Picking up new badges.
Summoning the perfect trailmix.
Smashing your learning goals.

For those concerned that headbanging at their computer could distract co-workers, Dr. Halford says,

“Don’t fret. You can enjoy these cognitive effects without head banging or even shredding on your air guitar. Patented thought wave technology means as long as you’re mentally rocking out, you’ll reap the same benefits.”

Ride the Lightning skills

Metal mania has also struck a chord with the larger Salesforce ecosystem. Developers are feverishly exploring ways to integrate this new learning into their orgs. Innovations so far include building dashboards to track metal festivals, dedicated Chatter groups for metal admins, and reports focused on which guitarists shred the fastest.

But while Trailshred and most of these innovations are still in the prototype phase, there is one shred-tastic update you can riff on today — a new Trailhead project that lets you add sound effects (including guitar solos) to your org!

Sign an awesome new prospect? Riff it out. Close a bodacious deal? Let the metal mania begin. This cool new Trailhead project shows you how. And bonus, it’s also a great introduction to the power of Lightning Web Components and the Lightning App Builder.
