Introduction —

On a summer morning, the town crier of Opuba went to the stream to fetch water for his newly born wife. Since he was appointed as an information disseminator, he has this liking for any straight tree that has branches that can be used as sound drumsticks for his work.

The town crier was whispering and the same time sighting the branches of a tree near the stream. He was looking for the one that could sound like the blasting thunder, but before he removed his top trouser, an elderly woman who was about to fetch water drew his attention to ignore the tree.

The old woman said, "It seems this tree is the oldest tree in this village, the burning of the branches every year and freshening of the leaves is telling us strange interpretations.” The old woman told him that, even the tiny shape had shown the maturity of the tree.

The town crier paid deaf hear to the old woman and told her to mind her business. " You better mind your business old woman.” When the old woman left, he cut the tree with a sharp axe. While cutting, he had the mind to climb the tree to pick a branch that could be useful to him instead of falling the whole tree. A branch that will sound like the trumpet that fell, Jericho. So he climbed to reach the end.

While struggling to fall some branches, his mind troubled him the more and he saw strange things entirely. His eyes were rotating like a plane in the air which had lost its control. Wailing just turned his yelling in the river bank. Horror was his bosom friend at that period. He was stabbed with terrible fear amidst tears.

Just in a moment, he heard strange sounds like the shipwreck which reminded him of his last journey by water. Snakes were shrieking in his ear. Before he realised it, semi-aquatic animals and others surrounded him. The snake climbed towards him, while others were in the happy moment to welcome him as a friend. Some of the animals widened their mouths open to tear him into pieces.

The fortunate thing that happened to the town crier was, that he didn’t leave the tree he was holding, and the animals were all expecting him to fall from the tree to drive him. They competed to tear the man into pieces, so, none of the animals pursued him the more. Some of the animals that attempted later went back to wait for the direction he was hanging. The freshwater crocodiles were growling to gnash the man’s leg but to no avail.

The man spent 5 hours on top of the tree. It was his wife who told her neighbours, “Since morning my husband went to the stream to fetch water, yet he is not back.” The wisest man in the village led a group to look for the town crier. Though, they thought he had gone while approaching the stream, they heard sounds of animals roaring and crumbling. The man was also buzzing, but his voice was overshadowed by the sounds of the animals.

The leader of the group said, "One of you should go and bring guns and bullets and another one should go and spy on what is happening." Just as planned, they came back at the same time. They were hearing the piercing of the man. So, they slowly went there and shot the animals at once. The fortunate thing was, that the town crier did not leave the tree he was holding. That’s how he was saved in the hands of the animals.
