Hey there, fellow Seattle dwellers, curious onlookers, dreamers, admirers, and friends. We understand that your texts need answering or that your coffee needs drinking but if we could have your attention, yes? There it is. We’d like to share something different with you, a few moments of your time, we promise. We have some stories of food, of experimentation, of what it’s like to live here and get closer to what’s been here longer than you and me. A lot longer in some cases. We know written text is not really a thing anymore. It’s certainly more than 280 characters. But we’d like for you to grab a chair and even that coffee you’re holding and fall into the darkness with us.

The darkness, you ask? Well, yes, we do live in the Pacific Northwest after all. It’s the darkness that greets us in the morning and puts us to bed before dinner. The despair we feel when sweaters, flannels, endless cups of tea, and too many blankets conspire to keep us only slightly warm. The vibe of living here that leaves you feeling like the Man in the Box Lane Staley screamed into the microphone about whenever a fat drop of rain drips down the back of your neck.

But did you know that there’s another side to the darkness? It’s the one where we make warm memories with our friends over cups of coffee and tea. It’s the one where we discover all of the things that need the darkness to grow and be free. It’s the memories of this land that have long since been forgotten but are still here, waiting to be uncovered. Throughout our collection of stories we’d like to share with you, we want you to keep the darkness in your mind, and perhaps by the end you will have embraced the darkness with us.
