Completely unplugging can be tough — especially when you love what you’re doing and when you’re surrounded by amazing team mates who you want to help and support. Fear of missing out is a thing, and it’s easy to just open slack while you’re on holiday to see what’s going on and jump into work conversations you’re passionate about.

Wouldn’t it be nice to really be on holiday, knowing that nothing is happening that needs your attention, you don’t miss out on any projects, in-jokes, fun after-work drinks or interesting chats — you can just completely focus on yourself and your loved ones?

We thought so too! And even since the early days of Trailmix, we shut down the studio between Christmas and New Year so that everyone can relax and spend quality time with their friends and families.

This year, we decided to do more and introduced a summer holiday, called Trailbreak! We understand that unless our team feels energised, it’s hard to be creative, be supportive and be fully engaged at work. Trailbreak meant that we closed the studio for an additional week in July giving every Trailmixer five extra days of holiday to fully focus on themselves and not worry about work, or the dreaded catching up that often comes after having time off.

Take a Trailbreak

Trailbreak is one of the many ways we are prioritising our team’s wellbeing, acknowledging that, even though we love being together making beautiful games, we all need breaks to focus on nourishing our personal relationships and ourselves.

Coming back to the office on the Monday morning after the Trailbreak we could feel tons of positive energy in the air and everyone was excited to share what they got up to during their time off. Because it was so fun to hear everyone’s stories we decided to share them here with you all.

Hopefully everyone out there reading this had a chance to recharge as well.

Take care of yourselves and lots of love,

The Trailmix Team ❤

Said from Trailmix Games: As a fresh Londoner, I had a chance to visit different areas of London and explore things I find interesting and worth a visit. Besides, I was flat hunting and was outside at the time of the heatwave!
Yoojin from Trailmix Games: Chocolate hunting through Switzerland — starting with Jazz night in Montreux, hiking in Pilatus and closed with city sights in Zurich!
Neo from Trailmix Games: Had a long weekend in Brighton to explore the food scene and be in the shade.
Constantin from Trailmix Games: Just spent time in London. Exploring the place you live with no obligations or pressures on your time for a bit is such a pleasant experience. Relax, gym, lunch wherever with whomever, shopping, museums, stay up late, sleep in… Just lovely.
Started by going to Margate on Sat..Got really hot during the heatwave, but managed to set up an outdoor sitting room on day two (equipped with a paddling pool, TV, shade & a sofa area) to stay cool in the evenings. Then I became a tourist in London. Went to a few exhibitions including the dream machine (which was quite strange), went on a Thames clipper boat & found lots of cool new spots to chill!
Lauren from Trailmix Games: I went to visit my family in Northern Ireland and escaped the London heatwave!
Andre from Trailmix Games: Spent a few days in Cardiff in Wales to see some old uni friends and my brother. Spent the rest of my break in London Parks trying to cool down.
Cosmin from Trailmix Games: Spent a few days with friends in Amsterdam for my bachelor party. We sailed on the canals, walked way too much, drove bikes, and of course had a lot of great Dutch beer.
Mat from Trailmix Games: Finland Summer House on a Lake — staying for friends’ wedding and setting up a jam room with a view!
Chiara from Trailmix Games: Stayed in London, just chilled in my flat catching up with some TV shows, and playing video games. Visited the Tate Modern, watched Everything Everywhere all at Once, cooked a lot, had many naps, 2 bbq, 1 picnic — a very nice and relaxing week
Matt from Trailmix Games: Staycation near the forest of Dean. Lots of green, lots of cows and sheep and lots of relaxing. Lovely to have such beautiful countryside on our doorstep!
Ricardo from Trailmix Games: Went on an ongoing quest to find great beaches in the UK to chill (and escape the heatwave in London)
Ross from Trailmix Games: Visited the North Devon and Cornish coast, and saw along the way: Tintagel Castle (King Arthur’s mythical residence, along with Merlin’s caves), a bee farm and garden, Exmoor Zoo, a slapstick version of Oscar WIlde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest”, and a witch research institute and museum.
Matt from Trailmix Games: Spent a week traveling along the coast of Portugal from the Algarve to Lisbon — much food and wine was had
Sean from Trailmix Games: Back to the future “ the fricking Musical !!! Way better than it sounds
DC from Trailmix Games: Very happy to have used the time to go to the Cairngorms for 4 days — wanted to go for ages and usually never time to travel the 7 hours drive on a weekend or use normal holidays, so very appreciated to get this time to visit and hike.
