Smartphones have become an important tool for all of us — we use them every day and very often (on average 3+ hours per day), both in our personal lives and in our jobs.

The next big thing impacting the smartphone world will be 5G, so it is important that we understand what is is and how it will helps us better then the current one (4G).

So what is 5G and why should we care?

5G is the next technological revolution that will impact our smartphones (and more). 5G stands for 5th generation and is the next step of the mobile revolution started in the 1980s with 1G:

• 1G (1980): first mobile phones (analog voice).
• 2G (1990): mobile phones using digital voice technology, first text messages.
• 3G (2001): internet-connected mobile phones, first video call.
• 4G (2010): smartphones
