Future Frontiers 2022
We’ve now wrapped up our latest Future Frontiers Programme which saw 12 Trainliners coach 20 students on what they want to do when they leave education.
And what a difference it has made, with:
93% of pupils agreeing that they were clearer about what they needed to do to achieve their ambitions
80% of pupils agreeing their career coach has guided them to discover an inspirational career
Harvi Cheva, Future Frontiers Programme Manager said: “It has been a delight working with Trainline volunteers. We had to adapt at the beginning of the programme due to lockdown restrictions and do it online in a school IT room; the students were so shy but appreciated how understanding and kind their coaches were as they stuck with them.”
“By the end of the programme we were at Trainline’s offices — the young people were feeling more confident and saying how cool it was to think back on what they’d achieved and learnt, as well as how much clearer their visions for the future were. Trainline’s volunteers gave the students their full attention for 6 hours of careers coaching and were such wise and empathetic role models — it is full credit to you all that there were big uplifts in the pupils’ self-belief, skills and career readiness by the end of the programme, especially given 0% of the students knew what courses to apply to after Year 11 at the start.”
“Thank you all very much for your hard work and thoughtfulness — I wish you would all coach me! The youngsters loved learning about the social aspect of the working world too — most importantly your table tennis table ?.”
When reflecting on the programme, one pupil said: “I don’t know what I was worried about at the start of the programme — it must’ve been a confidence thing because now it’s cool to know how much I’ve achieved and learnt. I have a way clearer view of what I want to do and what I want after my GCSEs. Thank you!”
Reflecting on her experience, Aysha Ali, Data Apprentice said: “Being a coach for Future Frontiers was an amazing learning experience, not only was I teaching young students about possible next steps, but I was also reflecting on the steps that I have taken myself. It was great seeing my student grow throughout the sessions and it was highly rewarding.”
Speaking of his coaching experience, Jay Davies, Head of Platform Reliability & Operations said: “Future Frontiers is a great way to give back as well as an opportunity to grow yourself and learn how to coach and mentor others no matter what level you are at, with the added reward that you may actually help shape the path of future talent.”
Throughout our time partnering with Future Frontiers, we’ve had 6 programmes and altogether coached over 140 pupils. A massive thank you to all our volunteers from this programme and previous ones too, we can’t wait for the next London programme to start!
