This is a problem that most transgender face on a daily basis. We are all struggling to live with the person that we want to be. The problem is there are a lot of people that want to make this struggle to be the opposite gender a really hard battle. This could be from family or friends and requires a lot of endurance to push through and become the person you want to become. Life is tough and it’s not an easy ride for a transgender person because each person goes through their own little challenges, well some challenges are harder than others. None the less, you are working towards becoming the opposite gender from birth or identifying as non-binary or any other spectrum and this creates doubt, misery, and depression.

Transgender’s being among the highest people to commit suicide because of chronic depression from being repressed about who they are. We suffer from all types of side effects from being told that we cannot be in the gender that we are mentally are. Many forced against their will to be stuck in the same role until much after their high school years when we can finally become who we have always believed to be. The problem here is that and I quote: “6.7% of general population in the US is depressed and half of these numbers are from transgender’s.” (by Katherine Schreiber) That’s an astounding amount of people that are suffering from depression. That’s somewhere near 11 million people that are part of the transgender community in some way or another. We are all suffering from a form of depression brought on by anxiety and other negative responses. Considering there are only supposedly 1.4 million transgender people in the US that seems like the number is far from right, or other people are exhibiting signs of being transgender and are not reporting it.

Should we all be suffering from being depressed? We shouldn’t be, we have the right to be here like any other and while people are discriminatory to us, they shouldn’t be. But sadly, people are still facing depression on a daily basis. You should not be depressed about who you are, you are a person like everyone else, a citizen of your country like any other person. You are perfect the way you are and if that means changing who you are to be better than by means do it. You have to learn to love yourself no matter if others do not. You are not alone and there are millions of us facing the same criticism that you might be suffering so don’t give up.

The signs

If you are finding out that you are being reclusive or pulling away from others then you might need to seek professional help. If you are feeling like there is no hope and that you shouldn’t go on, call someone, get a doctors appointment with a therapist. Getting a doctor appointment for a therapist is the first step to starting your transition anyways. Do not kill yourself, you are loved by so many others like us that you shouldn’t be scared to come forward even though it might be the toughest road you have ever had to travel.
