A Word from #TRANSformtheVote Campaign Organizer Hope Giselle

Hello NCTE Action Fund Supporters,

I have just joined the Action Fund team as the Campaign Organizer for the TRANSform the Vote campaign, an initiative that will encourage trans people and allies alike to register and commit to vote, guide folks through their state’s voter ID requirements, and make sure we can all cast our votes on Election Day.

By organizing our community to register to vote, educating them on the issues at stake, and empowering with the knowledge of their rights at the polling booth this November, we seek to spread a message of hope and motivate trans people to be heard at the ballot box.

It’s vital that we continue to create change in the wake of the surge of attacks we have faced (and will likely continue to face) from the Trump-Pence administration. To name just a few examples, in the last year and 8 months in office, the administration has:

• cut back vital protections for transgender students in schools,
• misused religious freedom to condone discrimination against trans people in health care settings, and
• unforgivably sought to ban trans people from serving in our nation’s armed forces.

The time to fight back is now.

We have the ability to triumph by using the power of the vote to elect fair-minded leaders to champion transgender equality. We must remind ourselves there is a future for people like you and me. We can transform the lives of trans people and their families by the vote this November. We can TRANSform the Vote.

In the coming weeks, you will learn more from me about all the details of our campaign. I consider it an honor to work on behalf of the transgender community and amongst individuals who share my lived experience.

I can’t wait to dive into this important work with you all — this will undoubtedly be an amazing and historic election year!
