Bikes plus transit = the best trips, period.

Forget cars. With Transit, you’ll find a bikeshare/scooter-to-transit combo is often the fastest possible trip 🚲

Cars are giant, dirty, expensive, dangerous.

But what if they’re not even fast?

Driving in the city has never been so brutal. Traffic is apocalyptic. Finding parking? It’s a bloodsport. We cross our fingers that Fully Autonomous Cars™ will spare us further insanity… yet the reality will probably look more like Fully Autonomous Gridlock™.

Skipping the traffic, the parking, surge pricing, search parties for keys… is a new breed of commuter. They mix and match modes for the most spatially-sensible (hence, fastest) trip…

  • High-density modes through high-density corridors 🚊🚍
  • Single-sized modes for everywhere else 🚲🛴🚶‍

Orchestrating those trips? Transit.

Trips that include a mix of transit, bikes, scooters, and cars are often faster than trips that stick to only one mode. Yet hardly any commuters take advantage of two-mode trips.

For every mode-mixing maestro, there are a dozen people who won’t bother checking the travel time difference between a “pure” ridehail-, bikeshare-, or transit trip — and the multimodal alternative.

So we’ve made it simple as sundaes.

And the trips you’ll find are FAST:

Sticking to the subway? Takes half an hour. Rush hour ridehail? Even longer. But multimodal 🚲 + 🚉? Shortest trip, shortest walk, shortest wait.

Combining real-time transit data with bikes and scooters means you can avoid tedious minutes waiting at the stop, long walks, and sub-optimal transfers by finding a mobility power-up 🚲🛴.

It’s the logical follow-up to our first multimodal feat: transit-oriented ridehailing. We’ve expanded our routing algorithms to include…

  • Rail + docked bikeshare ⚓️
  • Rail + free-floating bikeshare 🚲
  • Rail + scooters ⚡️
The right tool for the right road: in cities with rail, we’ll speed you under 🚇 and around 🚲🛴 traffic to beat taxis on speed AND price.

How? It starts with open APIs. Some cities require open APIs, and some operators provide open APIs willingly. They let anyone get real-time data about bikes, scooters, and cars. At Transit, we use that data to see how nearby 🚲🛴🚘 vehicles can be combined with nearby transit for the fastest possible trip. (With closed APIs? Much harder to do.)

Then we leverage recent improvements, like offline trip planning — which makes it faster to calculate the best transit transfer —plus new, elevation-sensitive trip plans, which ensure you don’t get sent up mountains like a pedal-pushing Sisyphus.

As a final flourish: we let you pay for and unlock vehicles, right from our app. We’ve baked these features into our trip planner in 10 cities (including Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Detroit, Minneapolis…) with help from our partners, so you can start your trip in one tap.

After all: showing faster trips is only half the battle — you have to encourage people to actually take the trips being suggested. (Ain’t nobody gonna download five extra apps to save five minutes.) But by elegantly unifying the planning, paying, and unlocking experience, your multimodal time gains get more tangible. ⌛️👉⏳

We love public transit. We love bikes. We love scooters. But when they work in concert, you end up with something even better than the sum of their parts. Multimodal trips shouldn’t require juggling apps (or local expertise) to plan. And now, they don’t. Thanks to open APIs and crafty engineering, we’ve made them accessible to everyone — showing you trips that can legitimately outgun cars.

So, what if the future isn’t teaching four wheels how to drive themselves?

What if it’s just teaching different wheels to drive together?
