1. Transgender Alabama teen Tayy Dior Thomas was killed because of her ‘trusting and loving nature,’ family says | AL.com

Rolanda Carl, Thomas’ grandmother, remembered her as a kind, giving person who loved children and was always willing to watch her four younger siblings or cousins.

“That’s the thing that I get the most from her personality. She was a giving person,” Carl said. “That trusting and loving nature got her killed.”

A 2023 study by the Human Rights Campaign, a national advocacy group for LGBTQ people, found that more than 20% of transgender and gender-expansive people with known killers were killed by a romantic, sexual or intimate partner.

Thomas was the sixth transgender or gender-expansive person to be killed in the U.S. in April and May of this year, according to HRC.
