Digital Transformation driven by the advancement of AI as well as anti-pandemic measures has introduced irreversible changes to how we work and communicate, making it important to rethink about the changing role of translation and language professionals.

Recent years have witnessed unprecedented changes in the world of translation and multicultural communication, especially since the outbreak of the pandemic that has drastically changed how we work and communicate and accelerated digital transformation. The growing prominence of new practices arising from the pandemic, some of which are arguably irreversible, suggests that there is a pressing need to revisit the multi-faceted issues relating to the interaction between translation, culture, and technology in the context of AI-driven communication dominated by digital and interactive content. Such issues include the changing face of global translation in the era of artificial intelligence, emerging trends in intercultural communication amidst the increasing popularity of multilingual social media and digital entertainment content, the extensive use of deep neural networks for computer-aided cross-lingual communication, and the increasing role of technology in professional translation, language services and language studies.

To this end, we establish this virtual publication for the exploration of these issues by providing a cross-institutional platform for the sharing of ideas and insights from academia and industry to help language professionals, service providers, researchers, educators, and other stakeholders keep abreast of and reflect on the ever-changing world of translation and get prepared for the future.

We cover (and welcome submissions on) a broad spectrum of topics relating to translation, culture, and technology, including but not limited to the following:
