‘RBG’: Let’s be like the judges who voted in approval of Ginsburg’s gender-equality arguments

During the 1970s, Ruth Bader Ginsburg argued six historic cases on gender equality before the U.S. Supreme Court, at the time working for the American Civil Liberties Union.

Some of her arguments were highlighted in the documentary “RBG”, now in theaters.

Ginsburg won five of the six cases. No matter the case, however, I wonder today, what the judges who voted against her (all men) would say, with women having progressed since then, as the most recent wave of feminism lasted past the decade where Ginsburg, today a Supreme Court judge, made the arguments, into perhaps 1993.

Then again, with women still needing further advancement, as they are extremely underrepresented in many fields, perhaps the dissenting judges would vote the same today?

Also, it’s a problem that there hasn’t been a new feminist wave in a quarter-century.

This is why men need to pledge and re-pledge, continually, to not be like those judges and also keep women’s interests at the forefront of their minds. If they are executives (which are overwhelmingly men), they need to be willing to interview women for their open positions, as the ParityPledge is seeking to commit business leaders to do.
