Creating a New Turning Movement Count Study
When the “Turning Movement Count” app is launched you are presented with a list of previously completed studies. The first time you launch the app this list will be empty. However, at the bottom right corner of the screen there is a plus sign that can be tapped. Once tapped, a menu appears on the left side of the screen. The menu provides access to new study options, help articles, and access to data from the previous version of the app.
In order to create a new turning movement count, one of the two options below the “New Turning Movement Count” section needs to be selected. Two options are available:
Four Approaches Interface
The four approaches interface is the more traditional interface and it is designed to show all movements of an intersection in a single window. The default appearance of the interface is to have the the northbound approach at the bottom of the screen. The northbound position can be changed at any point throughout the study by tapping the clock.
The interface rotation setting is particularly useful to match the orientation of the intersection to the position of the surveyor. A screenshot of the interface is shown in the figure.
Single Approach Interface
The single approach interface is a minimalist logging interface which allows you to log vehicle and pedestrian data for one approach at a time. You can change the active approach at any point in time during the study but only one approach is presented at a time.
This approach interface is ideal for studies that require multiple surveyors in the field assigned to an individual approach. A screenshot of the single approach interface is shown in the figure.
