Ecuador is a fabulous holiday destination to visit getting the timing right to make sure conditions are correct can be the most important part of planning a successful trip.

Like any other country in the world it is important to plan ahead to work out when it is a good time to travel and to check if the climate suits you. In Ecuador the peak season for travellers lasts from mid-June to early September and again from late December through to early January. This is usually down to the fact that many American and European visitors have holidays around these times and that is when they book making it a very busy period.

This may be a logical time for travellers to come to the country but it also may put tourists off due to the cost so if you can then try to travel just before or after these months. It is also a time of year when cruises to the Galapagos are completely booked so beware if you do decide to travel at the peak times to book your tour as soon as you can.

The fascinating fact about Ecuador is that there are four distinct climatic zones that exist with its own weather patterns and they all therefore have their own optimal visiting seasons. The Andes Region, which contains the capital city of Quito, has its dry season between June and September when many people visit but if you want slightly warmer temperatures then take a trip from between December and March. The Pacific Coast Region has a rainy season between December and May and surprisingly this is a much sunnier time of year despite the showers. If you head there when it’s cooler between June and September you’ll be rewarded as the temperature attracts whales and dolphins along the shore.

In the rainforests and lowlands of El Oriente it rains all year but the rain is especially hard from late December through April. Most tourists venture there in the driest period, which is October through December. Finally the Galapagos Islands region has a dry season between June and December while the rainy season is in December and continues to May.
