Travel Hacking the World with Hotel Tonight
Hotel Tonight is my go-to app whenever I roadtrip. On a recent trip from Seattle to LA, some days my uncle and I would drive 100 miles. Other days we would drive 300 miles. The point is: we didn’t know where we were sleeping that night. But it didn’t really matter. We knew that Hotel Tonight would get us a great deal wherever we were.
It’s a mobile-only hotel app available on iPhone, Android, and Windows. Hotel Tonight offers hotels in the US, Europe, Latin America, and is expanding quickly. The app has coverage in cities as large as New York and in cities as small as Kennebunkport, Maine (yea, I had to Google that one too).
It connects mobile, tech savvy, and spontaneous travelers with otherwise empty rooms, bookable up to 7 days out, in a wide range of hotels. Hotel Tonight only partners with hotels that their team can personally recommend. The app also features user-generated ratings of each hotel, allowing customers to book with confidence on the spot.
On weekdays the prices can be high because of business travel, but amazing <$150 deals in well-respected hotels (like the Westin in SF on a Friday night!) can be found for weekend bookings. It’s great for spontaneous leisure travelers who want a quick getaway, people who find themselves in the city late at night and don’t want to cab it back home, or business travelers who find themselves in a city on a last-minute trip. When you’re making same-day bookings, Hotel Tonight is consistently 10-40%+ cheaper than any other booking website (sometimes even cheaper than a hotel’s own website) and is super easy to book. With just a few taps on your smartphone, you’ve got a reservation in your inbox.
In San Francisco today, prices are high since it’s a weekday and summer leisure travel in the city creates unusually high demand. The app recognizes these price fluctuations and even lets you know why prices are changing! I did manage to find some nifty hotel deals for tonight in wine-happy Sonoma and Napa, right outside San Francisco, for under $130.
Below are some deals for SF, Miami, and Las Vegas for tonight:

After selecting a hotel that interests you, there’s a simple three screen process to book the hotel:

Credit card and personal information is already saved in the app to make the booking and check-in process faster. Hotel Tonight also recently announced that Android users will soon be able to skip the check-in desk completely and use their phones to unlock their hotel room door.
Here’s how you can get an instant $25 credit for Hotel Tonight:
