Save 20% on all Southwest Flights
Disclosure: Darius from Million Mile Secrets first wrote about Southwest discounts, just highlighting my favorites here
10% off all Southwest Purchases
Southwest gives you 6 Southwest points, worth 10 cents, per $1 spent on a Wanna Get Away Fare as long as you have a Rapid Rewards account. That’s an automatic 10% discount that can be used on future flights. You’ll get even more if you buy an Anytime or Business Select Flight or if you have A-List or A-List Preferred.
Additional 10% if you have a Chase Ink card (Bold, Plus, Cash, or Classic)
These cards all get 5x Ultimate Rewards points on office supply purchases (up to $50,000). You can get 5x points on Southwest purchases by buying a Southwest gift card from Staples online. Better yet, you can get an extra 2% cash back if you go to Staples via Ebates (my referral link).
With the Ultimate Rewards points, you can:
- get cash back at 1 cent per point
- travel via Ultimate Rewards portal at 1.25 cents per point
- transfer to Southwest for 1.67 cents per point (transfer to other airline or hotel partners for 1.5-4 cents per point)
Unfortunately the Chase Ink Cash and Classic can’t transfer to airline or hotel partners, but you can transfer the points to a Chase Sapphire Preferred if you have one and then transfer those points to an airline.
If you pay for Southwest purchases using this method, for every $1 you’ll get:
- 5 Ultimate Rewards points — worth at least 8.35 cents towards Southwest Wanna Get Away Fares
- 2% cash back from Ebates
- 10 cents towards Southwest Wanna Get Away Fares from Southwest for booking with a gift card
That’s a 20.35% discount on all Southwest purchases
If you don’t have a Chase Ink card, you can still buy Southwest Gift cards from Staples via Ebates and get a 12% discount (2% cash back from Ebates + 10% for future flights from Southwest).
