During your trip in Kyrgyzstan, you will admire the beauty and grandeur of the Kyrgyz mountains. The mountains of Kyrgyzstan occupy about 90% of the country’s territory and belong to two mountain systems: Tien Shan and Pamir.

The Tien Shan mountain system, which means “celestial mountains”, covers the territories of several states, but most of it is located in Kyrgyzstan. The Tien Shan stretches from north to east and is the longest ridge in Asia, its length is 2800 km, and its width is 800 km. There are 40 peaks on the ridge, the height of which is more than 6,000 meters. The highest peaks of Kyrgyzstan are Pobeda Peak, 7439 meters high, and Khan Tengri Peak, 6995 meters high, are located in the central part of the Tien Shan.

Pobeda Peak, the highest peak of the Tien Shan, was discovered in 1943 and is located on the border with China in the Issyk-Kul region on the Kakshaal-Too ridge. It is the northernmost 7000m peak in the world and one of the most difficult to climb.

Khan-Tengri, which means “the lord of the sky”, is located on the border of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and China. People also call it Kan-Too or “bloody mountain”. The height of the peak, taking into account the thickness of the ice, is 7010 m, without it — 6995 m.

The Pamir mountain system, which is also called the “roof of the world”, occupies only a small part of the territory of Kyrgyzstan, namely the northernmost part of the Pamir — the northern slopes of the Trans-Alai ridge and the northern part of the Pamir-Alai, which includes the Alai and Turkestan ranges, located in Kyrgyzstan. On the Zaalaysky ridge is Lenin Peak, its highest peak and one of the most popular peaks for climbing. The height of Lenin Peak is 7134 meters. It is considered one of the easiest climbers to climb, therefore, when planning a trip to Kyrgyzstan, many climbers consider it.
