24 Hours to Save the Detroit BBQ | NBC’s Today Show Special

Erica Hill and the news crew from the Today Show flew to Detroit to capture the real-time story as my Detroit 24-Hour Impact Project launch. We published a fundraiser to save a BBQ for Detroit’s homeless, raised over $24k in 24 hours, and transformed a vacant lot into a park the following day!

Thanks to everyone to rallied to donate, fix up the vacant lot, and helped an incredible cause in my hometown of Detroit.

To the incredible team at CrowdRise and Erica Hill from The Today Show, you were magnificent and even stuck around through the rainstorm!

Massive THANK YOU to:

  • Sacshe Construction for building a park pavilion in ONE day
  • The Detroit Mower Gang for rallying to mowing our vacant lot
  • Wasmer Brothers Landscaping for donating landscaping services
  • John Kwiatkowski (Honest John’s) for keeping our burgers fresh
  • Kyle Casey (Casey Sign Co) for painting a sign in less than 12 hours!
  • Channel 955 + Mojo in the Morning for the awesome radio spot!
  • Erica Hill, Caroline Gottlieb, and everyone at TODAY for taking on such a beautiful story
  • Matt Walters (City of Detroit) for his support and cooperation in this effort
  • Ryan Doyle (Video Vision 360) for his incredible videos and endless loyalty
  • Mike Schmitt and everyone at ElevateDetroit BBQ for sustaining this all-volunteer BBQ that continues to serve our community every Saturday.
