Searching for My Inner Strength Along The Camino
And some of the lessons I learned along the way
Why am I doing this?
I don’t even really know the answer to that question. I know I felt compelled to take on the Camino de Santiago, but I’m not sure why.
My good friend had written about her previous journeys on the Camino, and I had another friend who had completed it several years before.
It would be a test of my physical and mental fortitude. You would think I had already done that when I trekked to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro or when I cycled from Saigon to Hanoi in Vietnam or when I took on any one of the many challenges I tackled over the years.
This marathon walk would be more of a spiritual quest. It was originally a Catholic pilgrimage in honor of Saint James (Santiago) and while I was raised Catholic for the first 10 years of my life, religion was not a part of my reason for this journey.
I was hoping to use the mindless step-by-step trek to rediscover the elements of my spirit that I felt I had lost over the years.
