Apps to use in Russia
Travelling through Russia, as well as in other countries that were part of former Soviet Union, demands more or less managing with Russian language.
In order to make your life easier, I recommend you use the following apps if you travel around Russia and other Russian-speaking countries.
Yandex Metro
Yandex is the main search engine platform used in Russia, instead of Google. It also gathers a set of services and one of them is the Yandex Metro.
It gathers all the metro stations of Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kiev, Kharkiv, Minsk and Istanbul. Available in English, in Russian and in Ukrainian languages.
You just need to type the metro station you are situated in and your final destination. Yandex Metro indicates you the most effective routes by metro! It also works offline!
Yandex Taxi
It covers Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Samara… Well, you can use Yandex Taxi in the main Russian cities for order taxi online, including the touristic ones and those hosting the matched of the 2018 World Cup.
Yandex Trains
You can check the train times, the ticket price and platform number. It works offline.
Yandex Trains covers a large part of Russia, as well as Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Lithuania. Suburban trains are also covered.
Yandex Transport
Available only for Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Yandex Transport helps to find the most convenient routes by bus, train, tram or metro.
As this app uses GPS data for service tracking, you need to connect to internet.
Translator
Not so many people in Russia speak English. So, a translator can help if you don’t have interest to learn Russian language.
