Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon

The scale of Horseshoe Bend is really what makes photographing it (with a wide lens) fun. The place is FULL of people and tour busses. There is no guardrail either, so you’re just waiting for some poor tourist to fall what must be something like 1,000 feet. I camped out at this spot for about an hour before the sunset, and just started snapping as the light changed. Check out the raft camp at the bottom — definitely something I’d like to do in the near future.
Who would guess that this guy is a bum living out of his car?
Looking back on it, I should have had someone else take this photo with me in it. Would have been a cool shot with me on the rock. At any rate, this is the first room upon entering Antelope Canyon. Don’t get me wrong, I think the Navajo do a great job managing this uber-popular site. However, the amount of people and the fact that you have to walk with a tour guide make this more of a tourist attraction and less like a phenomena of nature. At any rate, the place is remarkable. Truly something that everyone should see at least once. And bring a real camera…the canyon is just so photogenic.
Unedited. Yeah, really.
Sorry, this one’s a bit grainy. But the swirls were just too much. It’s really a nice juxtaposition having just explored the Grand Canyon. Water created both of these places, yet they both have such different feels. One where you struggle to take in the grandeur, staring out trying to figure out how the hell something could be so large, while the other the complete opposite. You’re constantly looking into the details, checking out all of the little swirls to see where they go or where they originate from. So cool.
This is my favorite photo from the canyon. I just like the texture and the composition.
So I was in the Lower Antelope Canyon. The Upper, while being double the price to see, is known for its light shafts. Basically something like this but likely with a darker background so it looks more pronounced. We got to see one so I thought I’d kick up some dirt and snap some photos.
This one is obviously a vagina.
