Excited to announce Luke joining us at Travel Tech Con 2018 and looking forward to his keynote on the top travel tech predictions and a deep dive into travel industry trends — expect some seriously good insights!

Luke is the founder of LUFT, a research firm focused on helping travel industry investors & brands navigate an era of unprecedented technological change. Luke is a trusted voice that has covered the travel technology space as a publishing analyst for nearly a decade. His research has been featured at numerous global industry events and forums. In previous roles, he headed up Phocuswright’s European research division before moving on to found the Skift Research practice. Luke now focuses on developing novel frameworks and data sets aimed at facilitating bold predictions on the future direction of the industry. He currently resides in New York City.

Our team is a big fan of LUFT’s industry reports, we’re always impressed with the depth of insights Luke and LUFT research brings to the table and we’re especially excited about the LQ360: THE COLLECTIVE QUERY PROJECT that LUFT has been working on. The LQ360 Collective Query Project is a bottom-up approach to identifying the industry’s biggest challenges and opportunities — through questions. We’re using the collective wisdom of the crowd to optimize our query set, and to effectively build better more useful planning and forecasting frameworks for the travel industry.

Luke, what in your opinion is driving leaps forward in travel tech industry today?

Mobile computing and the influence that well-funded technology platforms increasingly have over the travel experience. The obvious culprit is Google as it moves away from advertising and into consumer empowerment and travel supplier connectivity. Others will come including Apple and Amazon.

What travel startups should understand about the evolution of the industry?

Travel is a global phenomenon but the business of travel is still localized. Be mindful of market size and opportunity. Every geography comes with its own unique challenges and opportunities. Be mindful of your targets and whether your tech is compatible with existing ecosystems. This holds true for b2c and b2b startups.

What are some of your most favorite products, projects or innovation initiatives in travel industry?

Any initiatives involving: Aggregation of vacation rental inventory and experience management; simplification of hotel technology; connecting visitors to local experiences; decentralization; mapping; spatial computing; facilitating inspiration; revenue management & pricing; machine learning; voice.

We’re absolutely stoked to have Luke share his expertise and perspective with our travel tech community — see his keynote & join the workshop at Travel Tech Con 2018.
