A Purple Saturday in London

I moved to London two months ago and have been organising mini city tours for ourselves in order to explore the city and last week, I found out about the lavender farms in London by chance (on instagram). After that, we set our radar to Mayfield Lavender Farm in south London.

After a small investigation, we learned that it takes about 2 hours from where we live. We were lucky about the transportation (National Railway and the other lines arrived on time) however, the walking part was a little confusing because of the conflict between Google Maps and CityMapper apps. Google Maps showed the distance as 50 minutes away from the bus stop by main roads, on the other hand CityMapper showed it as 20 minutes by pathways.
We preferred CityMapper and walked along this road and I’m definitely glad about our choice. The pathway was green, amazingly peaceful and relaxing. You do not feel like you’re in London while walking there and will see pretty cute country houses along the road.

We started to get the scent of lavender while getting closer to the lavender farm. After a 20 minutes walk, we’re faced with stunning purple beauty. Luckily, lavender is in flower at the moment (It’s season is July and August) and the farm was in full bloom and purple as far as the eye can see and you could get the intense scent of lavenders. We spent 4 hours between the lavenders by walking, taking photos, reading books and chilling out.
Entry cost is 1£ per person and picnics are not allowed in the area because of rubbish left behind but you can buy some soft drinks and snacks from the food stall. Also, there is a shop to purchase various lavender products; soaps, organic oils, tea, candles, etc.
It is a great and attractive alternative for weekends in London, leaving the city. You will not be far away from city but not feel like you’re in the city. It is absolutely worth your time!
Now, I’m leaving you with my photos from the lavender field.
Thanks!
