Gynaecological Oncology at CMC Hospital, Vellore
This department treats all types of cancers of the female reproductive system such as cancer of uterus and cervix. CMC is treating gynaecological cancers for decades. This department treats 10 patients with vulvular cancer, 45 with cervical cancer, 80 with uterine cancer, and 120 patients with ovarian cancer every year.
Breast cancers are diagnosed here and then referred to breast surgeons. Recently new treatment options such as HIPEC/ hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy are included. HIPEC is a procedure wherein your doctor delivers the concentrated and heated anticancer drugs directly to the site of the tumour after surgery. This makes sure residual cancer cells which may be left after the surgery, are destroyed due to HIPEC.
