A tough, but important decision

Dear Friends,

We’ve got to make a tough, but important decision to change a lot of what we’ve built at TreePress.

We’re tempted to make the explanation for this complicated, but it’s pretty simple: we need time and focus, to create something great for you all. And that is going to take some big changes.

We understand things haven’t always been perfect. We’ve been having conversations with many of you over the last six months (over 200 to be exact!) and realised that these changes were something that you all wanted too.

In order to achieve this, we’re faced with two options:

  1. Incrementally make changes over time
  2. Take a break, and build something brand new

As a small team of three, the day-to-day running for thousands of users takes up a big chunk of our time. If we chose the first option, we realised we simply wouldn’t have the focus, capacity or time to actually implement any of these changes. We simply wouldn’t ever catch up.

We want to build a product that you love. Right now, we could be doing things better.

We needed to have this honest conversation, within our team — and with you, before it got too late. Before we ran out of energy, focus, passion (and of course, money!). Which means that we’re going to go with the second option.

We’re going to take a break and build something entirely new.

And so, we are going to wrap the current version of TreePress up in a way that is best for our community. This will give us the focus and energy to release the next version — and boy, is it going to be huge — in Autumn/Fall 2016.

So, on 5th August we will be shutting down TreePress in its current format.

Don’t worry, all scripts, information and accounts will transfer directly over to the new platform, when it launches later this year. There will be a lot of changes, and we’re making this in partnership with you: our wonderful users.

Whilst we can’t guarantee that any of the same features will be there in the future, we do already know that the first prototypes that we have created have gotten many of you incredibly excited.

What do you need to do now?

Well, nothing really. All scripts are safe, we’re just dimming the lights for a wee bit. Anyone on paid monthly plans will receive a pro-rated refund.

When will TreePress be returning?

We’re planning on re-launching in Autumn/Fall 2016. We’ll keep in touch with all of you throughout this process and you can always reach out to us on twitter (@TreePress).

We know this may come as a surprise to some of you — but do know that we are more excited about the future for us, for you and for theatre than ever before.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.

‘Press on,

Laura, Adrienne and Jesal
