Have you ever looked at the ingredients in your tube of toothpaste? If you do you will probably see a lot of ingredients you’ve never heard of. There are a lot of chemicals within big brand toothpastes out in the US market, these include triclosan and sodium lauryl sulfate but there are many other things in toothpaste that are worrisome. After doing some ample research on the topic it’s easy to find out about the dangers of some ingredients in toothpaste but don’t fret, there are plenty of alternatives on the market that can be used if you do not want fluoride, triclosan, or sodium lauryl sulfate in the toothpaste that you, your family, or your friends use. Many big brand toothpastes have a warning to call poison control if any is swallowed, but all of my alternatives do not have that warning on the tube of toothpaste. Tom’s of Maine is the first company and product I have looked into. They offer toothpaste products with or without fluoride and sodium lauryl sulfate, while all of their products do not contain triclosan. This company claims to be all natural which seems to be true for the most part, but they are indeed owned by Colgate which is a billion dollar company on the fortune 500. While the Tom’s of Maine contains ingredients such as titanium dioxide which is classified as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” it does not contain the chemicals that Colgate brand toothpaste does and is definitely much better for you than the bigger brand toothpastes. It is sort of an in the middle option that isn’t perfect but is good to use for people just switching from colgate brands. Going from Colgate straight to the best options can be hard for some people because it is so much different from what they are used to. I went through the same problem where I did not like the option compared to the other brands, but Tom’s is great to use for those making the switch.

My other alternative option I am discussing is Redmond Earthpaste All Natural Non-Fluoride Vegan Organic Non GMO Real Ingredients Toothpaste (yeah I know its a mouthful to say out loud). Redmond toothpaste is fluoride, sodium lauryl sulfate, and triclosan free. They use natural ingredients like essential oils, sea salt, and bentonite clay. Redmond earthpaste is completely safe to swallow, although it is not recommended you do not need to worry about children swallowing it because it is completely safe. This product is offered on amazon for the price of $6.99 if you have amazon prime. This is a bit more expensive than some toothpaste brands but it is much safer and natural than many of the brands on the market in the US. A good way to know that this toothpaste is organic and made with natural ingredients is the fact that earthpaste has an Organic Materials Review Institute(OMRI) certification. This certification is very trustworthy and is given to non living products like toothpaste. OMRI is a 503(c)(3) non profit organization that provides an independent review of products and has given the certification to this product to give clear information and guidance about real organic materials. It contains no artificial colors and comes out as a light brown color which is off putting at first but you get used to it. It contains no foaming agents (which is weird at first since you’re so used to it) that are in many other brands but seems to do a great job of cleaning teeth and actually tastes great. They do a great job of creating a brand of toothpaste that is all natural and is safe to swallow and put in your mouth while also doing its job of cleaning your teeth and fighting cavities and plaque in your mouth. These two recommendations for a healthier alternative to the bigger brand toothpastes are great and I would recommend them to anybody trying to find healthier alternatives in their life. There are many other healthy options to choose from, so don’t feel confined to just these brands i recommend do your own research and find which brand works best for you.
