FALL CREEK FALLS- mini adventure
We are so fortunate to live close to so much awesome hiking. Today, Westin and I drove about an hour and half to explore Fall Creek Falls State Park in Spencer, Tennessee. Let me start by saying, we have so much more to see at Falls Creek Falls and there are TONS of activities that we didn’t even touch, today (golf course, horses, zip lining, etc).
I wasn’t exactly sure where we were going to start our hike, but I parked in a small gravel lot, just over the dam and got loaded up. In case you’re wondering, my essentials for a short hike with a toddler are; two diapers, a small bag of wipes, a snack, hydration, and spray Neosporin (which conveniently hooks right onto the carrier pack). Some friendly strangers advised us to stay to the right, on the trail, and off we went! We started on a bike trail that ended in a loop that would have taken us right back to the parking lot. Fortunately, there was a small foot path that led to a creek. So of course we had to stop and play!

While we splashed around in the water, several people started passing from a different direction that had led them over the bridge we were playing near. I later found out that was a more common route to the falls. So, we just followed their lead. The hike up to the overlooks was pretty easy. Westin did that entire leg by himself. We stopped a couple times to take a better look at some things we passed. I mean, who can pass up a fuzzy caterpillar?

Honestly, it was probably one of the easier hikes we’ve done, especially considering the views at the top. We passed people of all ages including lots of other kids. The trail led to two different overlooks. The second was definitely the more popular of the two. The view was incredible. Of course the main attraction is the falls, but in the other direction, our view of the mountains was just as magnificent. We did not hike down to the base because Wes was looking a little weary and he kind of calls the shots a lot of the time. But, we will definitely do that another time.

On our way back we stopped to play in the water again, Wes took a very brief nap in the pack(he’s got it figured out), and we rounded out our day with a picnic by the lake, across from our little parking area. Overall, it was a great, easy, kid friendly hike that is well worth the views.

Thanks Fall Creek Falls! We’ll be back soon ❤
