Quote by Mahendra SIngh Dhoni

The man behind the wicket. Crouched low, focused vision, ready to catch every ball that comes his way and barely letting it go past him, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, a personality that has inspired people from all age groups and across all nationalities. While most hail him for his presence on the field, his personality off field is as cherished.

Coming from the small town of Ranchi, Mahi (as he is lovingly called), was, as a kid, always interested in sports. But his interest laid in badminton and football. An efficient goalkeeper, his coach suggested that he play cricket, as a wicket keeper. With no particular interest towards the game, he tried it nonetheless. As the days passed, he developed an interest in it. An interest that reflected strongly upon his game, Mahi, being an industrious player soared greatly.
However, there was something that held him back.
Coming from a lower middle class family, he was required to work a job to earn a living. Despite his game, he joined the South Eastern zone railways as a TTE in Kharagpur railway division under sports quota.

Limited though were his resources, he still held onto his game, . At some point, with a belief so strong in his game, he quit his job as a TTE to concentrate upon his game. His selection came by in 2004 and since then there has been no looking back for Mahi.

In 2007 he went on to become the captain of the Indian team (in all 3 forms). One of the most successful captains across the world, Team India won many matches under his captaincy. The World Cup against Sri Lanka in 2011 was won by Team India, first since the last win of 1983.

With the number of accolades bestowed upon Mahendra Singh Dhoni, speaks greatly of his achievements, as a captain, as a player and as an inspiring personality.

With Padmashree, Padma Bhushan and Rajeev Ratna Khel award and an army conferred honorary rank of Lieutenant General to him, he has achieved every notable award in the country.

“You don’t play for the crowd, you play for the country.”
