A weekend getaway for a temple going family from Bangalore would definitely be Hassan. Yes, mine was this family.

Located at a distance of 182 km, the drive to Hassan would ideally take within 4 hours (considering Bangalore’s bare minimum traffic 😉).

4 of us packed into the Maruthi 800 on a bright Saturday morning November 7, 2015 we were heading to the famed Hasanamba Temple.

Legend has it that this temple holds within it a miraculous power. What is it? Visit / read on to find out…

Every year, during the Festival of Lights, when the entire town is decked up in colourful lights and lamps, the Hasanamba Temple opens its door for pilgrims from far and near places.

Opened only for 10 days annually, this temple opens its door on the first day after the full moon in the month of Ashwayuja (as per Hindu calendar) and remains until Bali Padyami (coinciding with the Festival of Deepawali).

A towering shrine of 81 feet greets you at the entrance. And upon entering, there is a place with 101 lingas consecrated.

  • The beauty of this place, in sense of Architecture and Emotions can only be felt. You must visit it once to feel the real magic.

Wondering what the miracle factor of this temple is?

So was I till I learnt it from an old grandma sitting inside the temple, counting the beads on her rosary.

Before closing the temple shrine, a ghee lamp is lit and placed along with flowers in the sanctum and a pot of cooked rice is kept as prasad. When the doors are opened again, a year later, the lamp remains burning, the flower still look and smell fresh and the pot of prasad remains unspoilt.

Temple doors remain shut for an entire year

A miracle indeed? Remains unexplained till date. But a visit is worth it to feel the miracle factor.

India never fails to surprise us.

Drop in your comments and let me know about any such miraculous events you have been a witness to.
