The jolly month of December is here. Wrapped in warm woolen wear, piping hot chai in hand and delicious smelling pakoras by the side, Winter is a favourite season for many people. However, did you ever wonder if your skin felt the same way? No?

Neither did I.

I used to maintain a constant skin routine throughout the year. Yes, cleansing, toning and moisturising remains a constant but I missed to pay any special attention to the soft skin of my lips that soon began to dry out and chap.

Easy to apply, I reached out to dab some petroleum jelly on my lips. But my lips were dried out completely and the jelly just hung off my peeling skin.

Miserably, I walked into my mother’s ever-stacked kitchen to surely find a remedy and these are the ones I found.

(PS- Try them out for yourself. You’ll be surprised).

  • Cucumber - The slices you see to be a part of every cleansing routine, The Cucumber, loaded with water and Vitamin C works wondrously over chapped lips. To use it, either mash a couple of pieces and apply over lips as a mask or gently rub the slices over your lips allowing enough time for the juice to be soaked up by your lips.

  • Coconut oil - The all-rounder remedy for all problems, coconut oil has remained an age old savior. A few drops of oil dabbed over the lips (as many times as you wish) and voila! smooth lips are yours. The fatty acids in the oil work their way skin-deep.

  • Aloe Vera - Enough has already been said about the benefits of this miraculous plant. Loaded with healing enzymes, they work to eliminate dead skin and promote healthy cell growth. Directly dab some (obtained from an aloe leaf) onto your lips.

  • Rose petals and Milk - Unheard of? Rose petals contain nourishing Vitamin E and the lactic acid in milk exfoliates the lips. To prepare this mask, soak a handful of rose petals in 1/4th cup of raw milk and allow it to sit a few hours/overnight. Mash the petals into a paste and apply over lips. Leave it on for 20 minutes and wash off with cold water.

  • Green tea - Good to drink? No. Good for body? Yes. Steep a bag of green tea in hot water, allow it to cool slightly and then apply onto your chapped lips. The antioxidants in the green tea hydrate the lips and combat inflammation.

This winter, allow your skin to enjoy the weather too. Hope the above remedies work out great for you like it did for me.

Stay Hydrated, always. 💗
