Plan Ahead

Start planning in September or earlier so you have enough time to prepare, we know busy the holiday calendar can get. This way you can create a solid marketing plan and calendar to really promote your campaign. A good giving Tuesday campaign actually starts 1 week before, allowing your donors an opportunity to see your marketing, build the hype and learn about your campaign. More to come on that below.

Urgency

When your donors hit your page they need to donate, a great way to do so in through a little urgency. Similar to the airline industry with their countdown clocks to book before the page expires. Make sure there is a countdown on time left to donate so they know it is only open for so long, this rapidly reduces the bounce rate and abandonment of your donation form.

Be Specific

It is a one day campaign, be specific, the best campaigns are for a specific part of your organization, or for a specific thing. Donors are much more likely to give when they know exactly where it is going.

Go Big — go for recurring

Recurring donations yield 80% more on average and Giving Tuesday is a great time to get new recurring donors. Make sure to design your campaign around the recurring aspect, you may get less up front but over 12 months you make on average 80% more than a one time donation.

Leverage all your channels, team members and main site

As this is an online campaign you need to leverage all of your online channels. Make sure you get all the main ones like facebook and twitter but go further by using Canva to create custom banners to replace your social media headers, email signatures, home page image on your website. Make sure that anyone interacting with your charity during the week leading up and especially on the day of know about what is happening.

Pre Sell — Collect emails, build up the hype
