Quake II is a game that deserves to be played in 2023-and this remaster is exactly what it needs to be. That’s the verdict of Ars Technica, one of the many outlets that have praised the remastered version of the classic first-person shooter from 1997.

The remaster, developed by Nightdive Studios and released on August 10, 2023, is available on various platforms, including PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation. It features enhanced graphics, performance, and accessibility options, as well as new content such as a new campaign, Quake 64, and both original expansions.

The game looks absolutely stunning on the Switch’s screen and runs at a smooth 60 frames per second, according to Nintendo Life. The remaster preserves the original gameplay and soundtrack, while adding modern conveniences such as cloud saves, 4K resolution, split-screen multiplayer, and cross-play.
