Starting a New Job During the Pandemic

During the epidemic, many companies switched to work from home. Even some companies work 100% from home. Many companies developed various models for work-from-home.

The epidemic will be a part of our lives for a while more. We have to get used to this situation.

Starting a new job by remote work is a different experience. Like many companies, Trendyol is working from home now. Also, the recruitment process is managed remotely. At first glance, I had lots of question marks in my mind too: ‘’How will I meet with people during this pandemic? Will I have to go to the office to take my laptop? What will I do for the problems I have with the setups?’’. Due to such questions, I wanted to share the process of starting a job at Trendyol and my experience with you.

Post-offer
After passing the interviews and accepting the offer made to you, HR sends a ‘’Welcome to the team’’ email to your personal email. The ‘’Pre-boarding for you’’ page, which covers tips to ease the ‘’onboarding’’ process, welcomes you in the email. Some titles from this page are as follows:

You collect the documents in the recruitment document list electronically. Due to the pandemic, you can deliver some required documents such as a clean bill of health when the work-from-home ends. After starting the job, you print out the offer submitted to you and send the original signed document back to the HR team.

My new team leader contacted me by sending a ‘’Welcome’’ email to my personal email. A ‘’Buddy’’ is assigned among the team to help you in the onboarding process. Your buddy gets in contact with you by phone before starting the job. Having a Buddy available 24/7 for all kinds of problems relieves your mind a bit.

First day at work
For one thing, your computer is delivered to the address you wish, a couple of days before you start to work.

On the first day, you meet with the team over Zoom. Your Buddy shares your 15-day job startup plan with you. Your Buddy helps you with the environment setups and necessary permissions. S/he plans necessary meetings and technical transfers for you. With your Buddy as a pair, you mingle with the team.

Training
The necessary training is assigned to your account over the Trendyol Online Learning platform, ‘’Trendyol Learning’’.

Trendyol Onboarding training consists of two titles, “Functional Onboarding Tech” and “Trendyol Onboarding”. First, you get involved in ‘’Technology Functional Onboarding’’. You undergo general training about the technology team and the company. This training takes about one day.

‘’Trendyol Onboarding Program’’ takes about three half-days. This training is also provided interactively. You are grouped with beginners. There are tasks for each group. It is entertaining, participatory, bonding, and useful training.

Surprises
At the start of the job, you do not receive a job starter package at once, and sometimes, this can be a problem. But then, Trendyol ships packages containing lots of small surprises to your home:)

A small ‘’environment setup fee’’ specific to the work-from-home period is transferred to your account. We have completed 100% remote onboarding as a team. I wrote the project on which I am working, 95% online now. The values and culture of Trendyol came in very handy in the onboarding process. By working in pairs, I adapted to the environment faster. Furthermore, the transfer training came in very useful.
