Remote Working in Trendyol Mobile Team

Everything happened in 1 day. We’ve all found ourselves at home in a World where remote work is imperative. This was actually an advantage for companies that had the opportunity to work remotely before.

Some companies and teams have decided to make working from home permanent after the pandemic. Yes, one of them is Trendyol Technology.

So how do we manage remote work as a mobile team within Trendyol Technology?

Let me give you some additional information, maybe you will be more curious about the answer to this question.

Another additional information: First of all, a buddy is determined to provide the onboarding process for everyone who has just started working at Trendyol. In the first two weeks, buddy is primarily responsible for adapting our new friend to the team, the programs and applications to be used.

1.Acquaintance

We create introductory meetings for each new member of the team. For each domain, the teams determine the day and time that suits them. And the buddy of the new friend sends the invitation for the relevant meeting. Thus, we help the newcomer to adapt faster.

2.Feedback

Feedback is the company culture at Trendyol. Therefore, as a team, we pay great attention to receiving and giving feedback in order to improve ourselves, our teammates and our team. In particular, we request feedback so that we can encourage each other to give Feedback. Thus, we collect information about our own development point, the development point of the team and the work we do.

3.Slack

Yes, Trendyol uses Slack for team communication. Unlike other messaging applications, Slack is an application that is more suitable for the way the business world works, thus enabling easier intra-team communication. Project-based channels and team-based groups can be created in Slack. Anyone who has been added to the channel can see all the documents such as information sharing, announcements, files, etc. in the channels. Individuals can also communicate individually. In the remote working process, Slack has a great share in making things go faster and keeping teams in touch. Thanks to the huddle feature of Slack, which provides voice communication support, we can move our work faster by sharing screens instantly.

4.Weekly

We hold weekly meetings so that the members of the team do not stay away from each other, see each other and stay in touch. These meetings are usually held within the teams themselves. We chat and play games. We talk about technical issues, inform each other and make presentations.

5.Tech Meeting

Every week we hold a meeting called tech meeting. At this meeting, at least one of them makes a presentation every week. Presentations don’t have to be technical. Our friends who know and research topics such as how to make filter coffee and what are UX Design Trends share with us.

6.Retro

Since we run sprints weekly, we do our retro every week before planning. In most companies, it is used retrospectively, not retrospectively. Before every planning meeting, a reminder notification for retro comes on our slack channel. First of all, we evaluate the actions we took in the previous week, if any, in retro. Then we talk about the items written in the area that needs improvement. We write our actions regarding the items we need to improve in the action field. Of course, we not only share what we need to improve, but also what we do well. We use Metro Retro for retro. We can support the articles written here with emojis and explode confetti. Thus, we try not to stay too far away from our face-to-face retros.

7.Birthday Celebration

We can say that birthdays are an event that the mobile team will definitely not skip. We prepare special backgrounds for the person who has a birthday on their birthday. Then, we send a birthday invitation to the entire mobile team, except for the person with the birthday, via Zoom. Everyone is updating their background with the prepared background. In the background, the birthday music performed with a personal name is waiting. When a friend who has a birthday attends the invitation, we all celebrate their birthday together. We are talking about our expectations and good wishes for our new age. Sometimes, friends who have a birthday can come as a surprise on these birthdays. Those who make surveys can be those who prepare presentations that describe themselves with photographs from their childhood to the present. As a team, we say that we are all together.
