Test Practices of Trendyol Android International Team

As Trendyol Mobile Team, we work in 8 different domains for now. I mentioned these domains in my previous article where I explained the structure and functioning of our android test process.

In this article, I will share the information of all our test practices of the Trendyol Android International Team.

So let’s start with the first topic…

1. How we test our features?

In order to switch to Trendyol’s International channel, we first consider the above test scenario.

Whether our application will be opened with the Turkish, English, and German language option varies depending on which country our users are in and the sim card they use.

Our application opens whichever of the above scenario corresponds to it. After selecting the country that supports English or German from the country selection screen, we test all the functional test scenarios of our development with both English and German. We are also working on other language supports.

2. Where we keep our test cases?

We use Jira to keep track of our work. We keep all the documents we need to access, such as Test Approach, Test Data, Channel Map, International Screens, in our Wiki environment.

We are trying to keep all the documents we see in the image above up-to-date, we are trying to add the features we have developed. We have test data that we need to reach, we are trying to add what we can.

We write our cases by specifying the conditions as follows.

In addition, we made a map of our international channel, and thanks to this map, we can see which pages we can access from where, which pages we have added, where the developed features can affect, under the big picture.

We sent our International channel to the Play Store in version 6.0.0. We have been developing for about 6 months. There are many features we want to improve to satisfy our users. As we complete our developments, we plan to add to our documents.

3. How we manage the Regression Test process?

We run our Regression Tests on a single package. The branches of the issues we developed in 8 different domains merge into the develop branch. Then we create the Release Candidate(RC) branch from the develop branch. We install the RC package on our physical devices and run our Regression Tests.

All scrum teams have their own set of regressions. As the International scrum team, we try to keep our regression set in Excel in detail.

After running all our tests, if all the scrum teams have finished the Regression Tests, we inform the team that the International Regression is Done, and we send our package to the Play Store after the whole process.

4. What challenges do we face?

I haven’t done the multilingual app testing before. I have tried out different applications, I have benchmarked, but this is my first time in the development phase. Different language means different people. Likewise, an application that supports more than one language means an application that should appeal to different people.

While we can easily understand the expectations of people in our own country, it takes time for us to understand the expectations in different geographies.

Some of the challenges we face are as follows;

  • We need to consider the max and min character length in the input fields,
  • In the address fields we need to consider the postal code field,
  • How many digit phone number do we need to consider in mobile phone,
  • Payment tools are different,
  • It is necessary to be familiar with multicultural knowledge in English, German or another language,
  • It is necessary to pay attention to the currency used,
  • We need to test all of our developments for all language options.

The examples above are some of the challenges we faced. It is very enjoyable to experience all these and I can gain different perspectives from different cultures in the testing area. As Trendyol Android International Team, I tried to explain the test practices we applied, I hope you liked it 🌎
