Visual Data Center Infrastructure Management

Away From Your Data Center? You Can See It!

We currently manage over 4000 servers on 3 different sites in the Trendyol infrastructure.

When we thought about how to make this easy for us, we found more than one method. We demoed many of them and evaluated the applications. And we chose the one that suits us best.

With the application we use, we create a separate site for each location to manage and control it. We monitor assets and generate alerts.

In the following headings, you can see what we can do. We will discuss in detail the two headings we use most frequently.

1- INVENTORY AND VISUAL ASSET MANAGEMENT

Complete Lifecycle Management of Every Asset: Complete Asset Lifecycle from dock to decommission of Physical, Virtual and Cloud and Facility Infrastructure; Visually Model and Manage in 2D & 3D: buildings, floors and rooms, racks, power, devices, cables and more.

Extensible and Real-time Asset Information: Devices have pre-populated manufacturer properties, device location properties, computed capacity metrics and real-time data from multiple sources including Intel DCM, RFID, Hypervisors, Cloud services, and CMDB integration. Extend properties using Entity Manager.

Search, Locate and Filter Assets: You can locate and navigate to devices deployed anywhere in the data center by searching identifying information like AssetID, Serial Number, Service Tag, RFID Tag, IP address or user-defined fields. Use customizable filters to view the data center by Ownership, Management Unit, Project, Capacity, Entity, Device or Tenant.

Asset Ownership and Tenants: Manage Data Center assets by Tenants, Departments, Management Teams or Projects

Inventory Stores: Organize and Track the complete asset inventory by Installed inventory, Decommissioned inventory, New inventory and Used/spare inventory.

Device Builds & Rack Builds: Visually create, reuse and manage standard configured builds (racks, row of racks, enclosures/blade servers, switches, servers, etc.) for quick inventory provisioning.

ADVANCED VISUALIZATION

Data Center Visualization: Visit the data center from your desk. See all levels of the data center site, building, room, locations, and rows all the way to the racks in 2D or 3D with full detail.

Capacity Overlays: View the device properties, space, power, temperature and other metrics along with the devices and racks.

How we did it?

We added our data centers in detail.

A Data Center < x floors < x Data Hall

- We placed our cabinets under the Data Hall.

- We placed our servers and switches in each cabinet.

Our cabinets in DataHall4 Row76 belonging to Venus DC and their 3D view are as follows.

- We manage the inventory from here, we have added many information such as device serial number, idrac ip, warranty expiry date, owner that we need in a server or switch.

- Property contains all the data about the device. We can query and extract each of these data. It makes our job a lot easier. We do not have problems such as where the device is located.

- There are many projects under Trendyol and we can consider each one independently. Accordingly, we created different tenants under Trendyol. We can easily access the information of which project the devices belong to.

  • We can see the changes we have made in the data centers located in different locations, through the application, as well as the historical logs. We record all physical work done through the application. Thus, we get all the information about the server history.

2- MONITORING AND ALERT MANAGER

Monitoring: Real-Time Monitoring of servers, blade servers and Intelligent PDUs for capacity metrics, health conditions and alerts.

Interactive 3D View: Real-time data can be viewed interactively in 3D. Choose the real-time capacity values to display Power, Temperature, Space or other information.

Alerts Management

Alert Notification in Real-time: One-click actionable critical alerts are generated and delivered online by SMS or email and managed by customisable alert management workflow driven by alert policies and auto-escalation rules.

Threshold-Based Alerts: App offers threshold-based notification for critical metrics such as Power, Thermal, Weight and Space to monitor and analyze capacity consumption data by data center site, floor, room, rack or enclosures. Threshold violations generate real-time, actionable alerts.

As seen above, when the thresholds set in the devices are exceeded, we generate an alarm and notify by mail or SMS.

- We monitor assets on all sites with dashboards.

  • We can easily control our data centers via dashboards and extract reports when needed.

Happy reading to all.
