As one major concern most of us have is, what are the common mistakes to be avoided, how to customize the resume based on our years of experience and how to highlight our skills and work experience. All these questions will be handled in the blog and the differences will be shown clearly.

Let’s get started without further delay !!!

Let’s first have a look at the resume skeleton which we will further break down into different chunks and talk about it in detail.

Now as you see in the above, what are the main sections to be included, let’s dive into each area in detail and understand how to formulate them.

PERSONAL DETAILS:

This section will be at the top of your resume and has elements of your Name, Job Title, Work profiles etc.

  1. Name: Write your name in a bigger font and BOLD it up.
  2. Job Title: Based on the position/role you are targeting in data engineering you can mention the same role. If you are very conscious about mentioning a “Data Engineering” role you can either mention your actual role or fill it with the below titles:

Microsoft Certified Azure Professional, Databricks Certified Spark Developer, AWS Certified Cloud Architect (Based on the certifications you have done, you can change this title accordingly)

  1. Work Profiles: Work profiles showcase your interests, expertise and skills beyond your resume. It’s crucial to know what kind of work profiles to include to have value to the resume. Below are the suggested work profiles you can consider :

LinkedIn, GitHub, Medium/Quora/Reddit and any other online platforms where your work is published.

  1. Contact Details:
  • EMAIL: Always include a professional mail id (firstName_lastName@anyhost.com) which can become the first point of contact to send the Job/Interview Details.
  • Mobile Number: Give a number which is having a good network and is always reachable. You can mention a maximum of 2 contact numbers to reach you.
  1. Name: Don’t include any fancy nicknames in the resume. Write the name as exists in your government proofs.
  2. Job Title: Avoid the job titles which are contrary to the data engineering roles you are applying for. This can be the first red flag a recruiter notices if you say you have prior experience in Big Data. It’s better NOT to include any job title rather than including a wrong job title.
  3. Icons: If you wish to make your resume to be ATS compliant then the usage of icons has to be avoided.
  4. Work Profiles: Avoid including social media handles other than LinkedIn. Ex. Instagram, Facebook etc
  5. Mobile Number: Avoid having creepy caller tunes or movie dialogues which don’t sound professional.
  6. Personal Details: Avoid including details like address, parent names, marital status, and DOB which are not necessary most of the time.
