So, party.

So, WeWork Beach Rd launched in Singapore. Big deal. So what.

I need to do stuff, and need the trep-community’s help, to wind me up, chat me up (in a non-creepy way), lift my spirits up, exchange awesome views on, bring funds up and around, diversely around, talk me down, and all the things you can’t do in a café. Duh.

So, here’s HOW TO COWORK:

  • it helps that we know our ABC’s, and that tiny thing called manners.
  • functionally we can hotdesk it - and be trepping it alone - but it helps to know all kinds of food, staff, global food directors (seriously helpful, you will never starve) and other trep worlds.
  • also, the resident vc’s - they look like bottle-nosed sharks but trust me, by daylight they are dolphins, and have your best interests at heart
  • be respectful of everyone. that’s everyone- from the folks who are hotdesking to the guys who run on caffeine, 24–7 in their own little foxholes, and run a little unicorn in the corner
  • when introducing yourself to a co-worker/ wework community member, you should do the following: 1/ introduce yourself, 2/ remain chipper and friendly (even if your startup shares are sinking 4points/sec), 3/ contribute to the environs that are led by the community leads : they are happy to head back home at precisely 6pm, after dealing with all the grumps of the day, 4/ do all the building for you- and regard everyone else, as parallel builders of your work-life/ startup persona, they are not your besties, 5/ learn to delineate : overfriendly behaviour vs. diplomacy, 6/ we are all adults, and are not derivatives of our alter ego selves (you can convince yourself of being wonder woman or superman in the flesh behind your laptop, but delusions aside, we are probably all marketing gurus /Q’s)
  • and with these tiny trails, you are meant to have a rip-roaring great time building the stuff of future life- whether it’s a new payment gateway, peripheral O/S or just writing about others, in hoping you could onboard more people on your fledgling platforms, it is all good.
  • we are here to make a living, and also a life. (ergo their tagline, actually works: Do what you love.)

So, we make heads roll when we know it’s soooo pricey, Florian would kill me (what the heck, that’s sooo pricey).

I guess we work.
