How I used Machine Learning to help our client within the retail sector

About a month ago, one of my colleagues working on an assignment told me that they were starting to experiment with Machine Learning. Now, this is a topic I’ve spent quite a lot of time exploring in recent years — and, to be honest, if you were to ask somebody about ML at 1337 — they’d point at me ;).
This particular client has a chain of stores in Scandinavia, and they were looking into making their recommendation engine much smarter. We got in touch, and agreed to conduct two workshops; one on the basics of what Machine Learning is and how you can use it with ML.NET (Microsoft’s framework), and the second focused on their specific problems that needed solving.
When I got there, I realised that they had already managed to make great progress quite easily as ML.NET allows you to develop smart applications. We managed to move the concepts even further, and the client was very happy with the outcome.
