Reporting & analytics in clinical trials
Clinical trial oversight is critical for protecting the safety of participants and the integrity of data as it is being generated. By tracking study progress and performance, clinical research professionals can proactively manage and monitor key activities throughout all phases of the study— from study startup to execution and close-out. Reporting and analytics therefore enable timely intervention and a more risk-based approach to trial monitoring.
In this article, we’ll walk you through the features and benefits of our reporting & analytics capabilities as well as our current options and future vision for blockchain integration.
Benefits for clinical research professionals
The Triall Platform provides clinical research professionals with single-point access to key performance indicators (KPIs) and other relevant metrics related to study progress and performance. Through our web-based dashboard and native mobile app, users can view data in real-time with reports that update automatically as new data is generated. Moreover, researchers can build advanced custom reports and export these to external repositories or business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Google Data Studio, or Spotfire. Customer reports can relate to key processes such as data entry, queries, subject status, patient visits, payments, and more.
The Triall platform comprises a modular configuration of integrated clinical trial software (eClinical) applications for data capture, document management, planning & oversight, trial supply management, wearable integration, and more. All activities and processes running on our platform are therefore captured in real-time, including data capture through Triall EDC, Triall ePRO, connected wearable devices, and more.
Triall’s Verifiable Proof API
Study progress and performance metrics can be logged on an immutable blockchain ledger through our Verifiable Proof API which allows the timestamping of data, right at the moment where it is generated. These blockchain timestamps provide verifiable proof that key clinical trial processes and procedures took place at a certain point in time, thereby improving the reliability of clinical science and good clinical practice (more info on verifiable proofs).
Creating verifiable proofs over the course of a study generates an immutable and verifiable audit trail that (1) lives independent of the systems used to collect data and (2) is kept available by a distributed network of computer servers (‘nodes’) who are incentivised to maintain the blockchain network. This means that long after a trial is concluded and applied eClinical systems have been retired, auditors and regulators can still verify the validity of the trial results and conduct.
Triall is building a Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) infrastructure that allows us to decentralise identity and access management (read how we are applying this in informed consent). This SSI infrastructure will allow the secure integration of previously isolated systems, thereby enabling cross-system exchange of relevant KPIs and other study metrics. In the context of reporting & analytics, this would mean that clinical research professionals can get a better grip of study performance, even if data is present in systems external to the Triall platform.
