Family quarrels and marriage choice cause half of the suicide cases in Pakistan that have been reported in the media.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan’s data on suicide cases from 2004 till 2015, shows that more than 25,000 suicide cases have been reported by the media in Pakistan.

Out of every 10, 4 people commit suicide because of family quarrels, 2 because of financial reasons, 1 because of marriage choice and 3 because of other issues.

Other reasons that compelled Pakistani people to end their lives are education, unemployment, admonished, psychological, matrimonial issue and illness.

The HRCP only collects data on suicides that have been registered with the police or reported by media. Thus the database can only provide a partial picture of the problem.

The data analysis shows that only 7% suicide cases get registered in the police station, 1% cases are not registered and 92% cases have no information.

In the HRCP database, very 3rd person who committed suicide is a female and every 4th person is a minor.

Drugs, firearms and hanging are the top three methods followed by drowning, train jump, self-immolation, suicide blast, injured, electric shock, drank acid and roof jump.
