Peshawar — Lecturers belonging to FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) held protest demonstration demanding their upgradation, in front of the Peshawar Press club on Tuesday.

The teachers have been demanding promotions in their services grades and teaching allowances. They seek promotion to the vacant posts of grade 18 and 20 in FATA and KP.

They criticised Advisor to KP Chief Minister on Higher Education Mushtaq Ghani and said that he had promised to solve their upgradation issues but he did nothing for us.

The teachers told media that they have already boycotted classes for an hour daily. They were protesting in front of many other press clubs in KP.

President of the Lecturers Association Naseerullah Khan said that they will extend their protests and stage sit-ins in KP and Islamabad.

“We will take the protest to Bani Gala, residence of Imran Khan, chairman of the ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), if their demands were not fulfilled,” said Naseerullah.

“Teaching assistants and ‘ad hoc lecturers’ should be regularised and seniority list should be approved,” he added.

In 2006, the then prime minister Shaukat Aziz had approved one-step upgradation but it was not implemented yet.
