Tribal students demand reopening of institutions in FATA, removal of governor KP

Members of FATA Students Organization (FSO) demanded tp reopen the closed educational institutions and complete the promised academic buildings immediately.

Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, the FSO members told media that hundreds of schools and colleges government doesn’t take serious steps to reopen the closed institutions and reconstruct the destroyed institutions.

FSO members also demand immediate removal of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan. They said that government should appoint a governor who belongs to FATA.

Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan was not taking interest to bring a positive change in lifestyle of tribal people. Had the governor any interest in it, the process of reforms in tribal areas would have initiated so far? FSO representatives questioned?

“Tribal people demanded Governor Kp’s removal.”

FSO senior adviser Haleem Orakzai, chief organizer Zahid Iqbal, senior vice president female wing Aziza Mehsud and Sadaf Afridi were speaking at the press conference in Peshawar.

They tribal students said that FATA was abandoned and none of the successive governments ever bothered to take any serious step for welfare of the tribal people.

Hundreds of institutions were destroyed and closed in the military operations and law and order situation in the tribal areas.

The students told that establishment of a medical college in Bajaur Agency was promised several times but it’s still on papers and government did nothing to construct it.

President FSO Shaukat Aziz said, “No steps have been taken for reconstruction of 1,034 educational institutions which had been damaged due to law and order issues in FATA. The FATA Youth Festival should have been arranged inside the tribal areas instead of Peshawar.”

Mr Aziz alleged that governor was focusing on unnecessary issues instead of taking steps for resolution of basic problems of Fata. He said the corruption was on its peak in various departments in FATA but no action was taken against the concerned officials.

The FSO president said that more than 20,000 positions were lying vacant in FATA education department but authorities were not recruiting jobless tribal youth to fill the vacant posts.

“Education should be the first priority.”

Aziza Mehsud said that government officials should ask us what we need for our young generation. “Education should be the first priority to work on truly,” She said.

Sadaf Afridi said at the occasion that unemployment in FATA was on the rise as job opportunities meant for educated tribal people were availed by residents of other provinces. He said that there were educated youth in FATA but they were not given jobs in the government departments.

FSO representatives also said that the condition of merit should not be imposed on the FATA students in all the universities of the country and jobs should be provided to them in government and non-governmental organisations.

Shaukat Aziz told the Tribal Post that we need a lot of rehabilitation in FATA. “Educational and other facilities should be easier and accessible for tribal children.”
