Apple unveiled its new lineup of Macs last week, powered by its updated in-house M series chip, the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. These new chips bolster improved performance and increase the number of cores over their predecessors. Let’s take a look at everything that Apple announced at its event. ⬇️

More Powerful M3 chips

Apple continues to improve and iterate on its M series chips and the next generation M3 chip is no exception. This lineup includes the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips. These chips were made using a 3-nanometer process, allowing more transistors to be packed into a smaller space and improving speed and efficiency. This new lineup of chips improve on the CPU performance from the previous chip, they also come with GPUs that support ray tracing, mesh shading, and Dynamic Caching. Dynamic Caching is a major improvement that optimizes the amount of memory used while the device performs a task.

The M3 chip comes with an 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and up to 24GB of unified memory. The M3 Pro chip comes with up to 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU, and up to 36GB of unified memory. The M3 Max chip comes with up to 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU, and up to 128GB of unified memory. These new chips have gained as much as an 80% increase over the M1 variants of Apple Silicon.

24-inch iMac With an M3 Chip

This new iMac will feature only the base model of the M series chips, the M3. This brings the iMac up to the M3 chip. In addition to the new chip, the iMac features a 4.5K Retina display with more than 1 billion colors, support for Wi-Fi 6E, and a 1080p webcam. The iMac also comes in a variety of colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. It has 4 USB-C ports, two thunderbolt ports, support for gigabit ethernet, and up to 6K display.

New Macbook Pro Models With the M3 Chip

The new Macbook Pro lineup has 14-inch and 16-inch models that are powered with Apple Silicon’s M3 series of chips. The power of the new chips and improved performance bring the Macbook Pro to another level. Offering even longer battery life (up to 22 hours), better performance, and improved gaming experience with the addition of ray tracing and mesh shading (nothing new to the gaming community, but this will bring Macs into a more viable and competitive space for gaming).

Alongside the latest M3 chip, the Macbook Pro has the same Liquid Retina XDR display as before giving you the sharpest image possible. The display is now 20 percent SDR content, a 1080p camera, and 6 built-in speakers producing amazing sound quality. The 16-inch Macbook Pro has three USB-C-Thunderbolt-USB 4 ports, a full-size HDMI output jack, an SD card slot, and continues to use Apple’s Magsafe to support charging and keep your device safe.

Conclusion

Apple continues to push the boundaries of what Apple Silicon can bring to the Mac lineup. These new chips are fast and powerful, but keep efficiency in mind when all the computing power isn’t needed. Extended battery life makes it easier to go through your full day without needing to search for a charger. It’s always exciting to see what the next Apple Silicon will bring.
